Report from Evening ASB Council

The minutes from the March 15, 2016, Evening ASB Council were distributed. Mrs. McKenna explained that the minutes from each council meeting are given to the other council, so that they each know what is being discussed at each other’s meetings.

New Business

Mrs. McKenna addressed the Council regarding “Day of the Teacher.” This year, the ASB Council is not going to fund a lunch/dinner celebration nor the purchasing of gifts for the teachers. Instead, the ASB Council will make cards or write poems for the teachers and perhaps buy each a flower. If Mrs. Roberts finds the funds in another budget and decides to provide a meal for the teachers, members of the ASB Council may act as hosts.

Mrs. Roberts set the dates for the Photo IDs. They will be offered April 26 and 27, 2016.

The Council voted in agreement with the Evening Council to provide a rose or cookies, and a bookmark for each teacher as a small gift in celebration of “Day of The Teacher.”

The Summer School schedule has been approved. Summer School will begin June 6 and end July 8, 2016. Daytime classes will be offered Monday-Thursday from 8:30-12:30. Evening classes will be offered Tues, Wed., and Thurs. from 6:00-9:00 PM. All departments will be open but each is offering its own individualized summer school program.

The Council voted in a unanimous decision along with the Evening Council to provide 1 large bouquet of flowers; 2 small bouquets of flowers; and one rose per each graduate for the 2015/2016 graduating class. The ASB Council also voted unanimously to provide four $100 scholarships for two graduates from Sierra Vista High School and for two graduates from the Whittier Adult School. The graduation ceremony will take place at the Whittier High School Auditorium on May 31, 2016, at 6:00 PM.

The Daytime Council and voted in agreement with the Evening ASB Council that next year they would like to purchase a mural for the Adult School. They really like the mural Frontier has and Mrs. McKenna told them she will speak with the principal of Frontier High School, Margie Moriarty, about the cost and other details regarding the mural. Obviously, the 2016/2017 ASB Council would have to agree to making this purchase with ASB funds.

The spring Photo ID Dates are as follows: April 26 and 27, 2016.

Mrs. McKenna informed the Council about a robbery break-in that occurred on campus in the Parent Education classroom. The Maintenance & Operations Department did a fantastic job of cleaning up and the room was completely ready for class on that Monday morning.

Old Business

Mrs. Roberts shared with Mrs. McKenna that the Special Education Department staff agreed to over-see the monitoring of the recycled trash cans. The school is moving forward in purchasing the trash cans for the campus.
