Report from Evening ASB Council

The minutes from the December 2013 Evening ASB Council were not available because the meeting was cancelled due to a very low turn-out.

Mrs. McKenna explained that the minutes from each council meeting are given to the other council, so that they each know what is being discussed at each other’s meetings.

New Business

Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. McKenna were so pleased to see such an improved in the student turn-out for the Evening ASB meeting. Mrs. Roberts had encouraged all the teachers to promote the meetings with their students.

The Council voted on how to celebrate Day of the Teacher. The majority of the Council voted to offer the teachers a celebration which will include food, drinks, and dessert. They also agreed to purchase small gifts for each teacher.

Mrs. Roberts suggested that after each teacher receives a Photo ID announcement, he/she posts it in a very visible place within the classroom. In addition, the teachers will be encouraged, by Mrs. Roberts, to promote student participation in this activity. She provided the dates for the February 2014 Photo IDs.

Mrs. Roberts explained some changes in taking the GED exam. Each section can be taken separately $35 per section. She stated that she was not sure how long after a student passes one section do they have to pass all four sections. Also, Mrs. Roberts suggested students go to GED.com for further information.

Some students informed Mrs. Roberts that they had passed GED, but that they never received recognition. Mrs. Roberts collected their names and said that after verification, their names will be posted on the marquee.

The ASB Daytime President Miguel Gonzalez proposed creating ASB Membership Cards. He brought in some samples and asked for recommendations.

ASB member, Xochilt Avila, suggested the Council purchase ASB Member T-shirts. She also recommended the Council purchase a microwave for all students to use and have easy access to it.

The Council was informed that the teachers had requested making ASB meetings shorter. The Council will make an effort to stay focused, thereby shortening the time of each ASB meeting.

Old Business

It was brought up that students should research and bring in their ideas regarding a teacher gift for Day of the Teacher. Having several ideas proposed early and with the specifics, such as cost, etc., makes it easier to make a decision on a gift.

Updates on GED testing regarding time allowed between first and final sections of the exam.

ASB Membership Cards

Microwave for Students

ASG T-shirts

Student Concerns

Updates regarding promotion of Student IDs by staff.

Adjournment

The next ASB Daytime meeting will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 9:45 AM.

The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by Audrey McKenna, ASB Coordinator & CTE Teacher.
