Report from Daytime ASB Council

The minutes from the February 3, 2015, Daytime ASB Council were distributed. Mrs.
McKenna explained that the minutes from each council meeting are given to the other
council, so that they each know what is being discussed at each other’s meetings.

New Business

Mrs. McKenna discussed the Governor’s Budget Proposal. She explained that the
January Preliminary Proposal, AB86, provides recommendations to the adult schools
and junior colleges. In May, the Final Proposed Budget will be released. As changes
are made, the Council will continue to be kept informed by staff. Mrs. McKenna assured
the Council that the Whittier Adult School is financially sound for the 2015/2016 school
year due to the stable financial condition of the District budget. Mrs. McKenna
explained to the Council that a consortium will decide how the funding is dispersed. No
longer will the funding for adult schools go directly to the district; instead, the consortium
will decide how to best disperse the state funding.
Mrs. McKenna informed the Council about an upcoming blood drive sponsored by PIH.
The blood drive will take place in April, and the ASB Council has been asked to sponsor
it. There will be a daytime and evening blood drive. PIH spokesperson has assured Mrs.
McKenna that very little help will be needed from the Council other than passing out
flyers and hanging posters. PIH will be responsible for taking care of all the other
details.

Old Business

Mrs. McKenna shared with the Council that she had received positive feedback from
students about Photo IDs being promoted with a poster on an easel in the snack shack
area.
She also informed the Council that two umbrellas would be purchased and set-up on
two of the picnic tables in the trailer grass area.
Mrs. McKenna let the Council know that their desire to have a bench built around one of
the trees on campus is still being pursued. More information from MO is needed before
a decision to build can be made.
The Evening Council also voted and approved the purchase of mobile batteries for the
staff for the “Day of the Teacher” celebration. The batteries are on sale at Best Buy for
approximately $14 a piece.
Mrs. McKenna requested that the students bring more ideas to the next Council meeting
regarding the food to be served at the “Day of the Teacher” event.
