DAYTIME COUNCIL

MINUTES

May 6, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 9:59 AM by Mrs. McKenna.

Mrs. McKenna welcomed everyone to the meeting.

The Council was encouraged to communicate to their fellow classmates the information that is discussed at ASB meetings.

The minutes of the April 23, 2014, Daytime Council meeting were approved as written.

Program Update

Spring Term: March 10-June 6, 2014

Memorial Day: May 26, 2014

Summer School: June 16, 2014-July 10, 2014

Financial Report

The balance as of May 5, 2014, was $4,616.15.

Report from Evening ASB Council

The minutes from the April 22, 2014, Evening ASB Council were distributed. Mrs. McKenna explained that the minutes from each council meeting are given to the other council, so that they each know what is being discussed at each other’s meetings.

New Business

The “Day of the Teacher” wrapping of gifts will be held on May 8, 2014, in room #221 from 9:00-12:00. A group of ASB members volunteered to meet in Mrs. McKenna’s room on May 14, 2014, to personally deliver the gifts to each of the designated staff members.

The Daytime Council decided to have a dessert table for the “Day of the Teacher” event. Some students volunteered to bring the following: cake, cupcakes, flan, and rice pudding. Therefore, the ASB Council will not be purchasing dessert for the daytime event.

The Council was provided food samples from the Mexican restaurant “Casa Gaszcon”. After sampling several of the dishes, the Council voted to serve the following: steak, chicken, and vegetable fajitas; rice; beans; salad; and chips and salsa.

The Council will purchase the drinks for the event.

Iliana Hernandez volunteered to provide the centerpieces. She brought in two samples. The Council decided to purchase 4 of each at $15 and 4 at $10. The centerpieces will be given away as prizes during the event.

Another ASB member volunteered to create the invitations for the event.

Old Business

The Daytime ASB president, Miguel Gonzalez, provided each Council member with an ASB membership card.

Both Daytime and Evening Councils previously approved the purchasing of ASB t-shirts for Council members. Since it is the end of the school year, this idea will be re-evaluated with the new 2014/2015 ASB Council members.

Mrs. McKenna also reminded the Council that in a previous Council meeting it was recommended that more time, effort, and creativity be put into the advertising of the Photo Id sessions.

Student Concerns

No concerns were mentioned at this time.

Adjournment

The next ASB Daytime meeting will be announced in the fall of 2014.
