Report from Daytime ASB Council

The minutes from the February 5, 2014, Evening ASB Council were distributed. Mrs. McKenna explained that the minutes from each council meeting are given to the other council, so that they each know what is being discussed at each other’s meetings.

New Business

The “Day of the Teacher” event is coming up; therefore, Mrs. McKenna strongly encouraged the Council to do some research regarding possible gifts and food for the event. At the next meeting, the Council will need to vote on what gift they want to purchase and the food, but the Council will need to provide details before they vote, such as the cost of these items. One Council member suggested the idea of purchasing Starbuck gift cards as a possible teacher gift for “Day of the Teacher”. Other Council members brought up the idea of possibly having the In-N-Out truck provide the food, or ordering pizza, or ordering chicken. Mrs. McKenna asked these Council members to please come to the next meeting with cost details.

Old Business

Mrs. McKenna shared that Mrs. Roberts was successful in collecting the names of students who had passed the GED but had yet been recognized for the accomplishment on the marquee, and now, they are.

The students voted on the proposal to provide micro-waves for student use. The Council unanimously voted “yes” to produce microwaves for student use.

The students voted on the proposal to purchase t-shirts for the ASB Council members. They voted unanimously in favor. The Council also voted on whether they wanted to purchase t-shirts for the school and sell them as a fund raising event. The Council unanimously voted “yes”. One Council member also suggested that we sell hats as a fundraiser. Six council members voted in favor and three opposed.

Student Concerns

A Council member complained that the teachers were not promoting the Student Photo ID dates in the classroom. It was also suggested that the teachers have the Student ID announcement set somewhere in the classroom where the students can easily see the flyer.

Adjournment

The next ASB Daytime meeting will be held on April 22, 2014, at 7:00 PM.

The meeting was adjourned.
