EVENING COUNCIL

MINUTES

May 7, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 7:43 PM by Mrs. McKenna.

Mrs. McKenna welcomed everyone to the meeting.

The Council was encouraged to communicate to their fellow classmates the information that is discussed at ASB meetings.

The minutes of the April 22, 2014, Evening Council meeting were approved as written.

Program Update

Spring Term: March 10-June 6, 2014

Memorial Day: May 26, 2014

Summer School: June 16, 2014-July 10, 2014

Financial Report

The balance as of May 5, 2014, was $4,616.15.

Report from Daytime ASB Council

The minutes from the April 23, 2014, Daytime ASB Council were distributed. Mrs. McKenna explained that the minutes from each council meeting are given to the other council, so that they each know what is being discussed at each other’s meetings.

New Business

It was announced to the Evening Council that the “Day of the Teacher” wrapping of gifts will be held on May 8, 2014, in room #221 from 9:00-12:00. A group of Daytime ASB members volunteered to meet in Mrs. McKenna’s room on May 14, 2014, to personally deliver the gifts to each of the designated Daytime staff members. The Evening Council initially wanted the gift to be an In-N-Out gift certificate, but the Daytime council wanted to purchase Starbuck’s gift cards. The Evening Council re-voted and decided to provide Starbuck’s gift cards to the staff as “Day of the Teacher” gifts. A group of Evening Council members volunteered to meet on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 6:30 PM to deliver the “Day of the Teacher” gifts to the designated Evening staff members.

The Evening Council had previously agreed to order a variety of sandwiches, pasta salad, and cookies from Lascaris. Mrs. McKenna will purchase iced tea, lemonade, and fruit from Albertsons for the event with money from the ASB funds as agreed upon by the Evening and Daytime Councils.

Mrs. McKenna brought in two sample centerpieces from a Daytime Council member, Iliana Hernandez. The Evening Council agreed with the Daytime Council in purchasing 4 of each centerpiece at $15 and 4 at $10. The centerpieces will be given away as prizes during the event.

A Daytime ASB member volunteered to create the invitations for the event and the Evening Council approved of this.

Old Business

The Daytime ASB president, Miguel Gonzalez, created ASB membership cards which Mrs. McKenna distributed to the Evening Council members.

Both Daytime and Evening Councils previously approved the purchasing of ASB t-shirts for Council members. Since it is the end of the school year, this idea will be re-evaluated with the new 2014/2015 ASB Council members.

Mrs. McKenna also reminded the Council that in a previous Council meeting it was recommended that more time, effort, and creativity be put into the advertising of the Photo Id sessions.

Student Concerns

No concerns were mentioned at this time.

Adjournment

The next ASB Daytime meeting will be announced in the fall of 2014.
